Respond Now to a World in Crisis: Your Gift MATCHED
The situation in Lebanon is becoming increasingly dire and we urgently need your support.
Since 2019, Lebanon has faced unprecedented and complex political, economic, financial, social, and health crises. More recently, conflict has increased in the region with September 23, 2024, marking a significant escalation. In the last 2 weeks, between 608,000 and 1 million people have been internally displaced in Lebanon as they flee areas targeted by airstrikes – that is up to 1 in 5 people. This is in addition to the estimated 1.5 million Syrian refugees that Lebanon is already hosting, the largest number of refugees per capita in the world.
In recent days, airstrikes have increased in frequency and range, occurring daily, spreading beyond Lebanon’s southern border area to include the Bekaa Valley and Beirut’s southern suburbs. These neighbourhoods are densely populated, as many Syrian refugees found housing there. Now many displaced residents are moving north to neighbourhoods closer to the downtown area. The percentage of people living in emergency shelters has spiked from 1% in August to a staggering 42%. Many have had to leave their homes very quickly and have taken few essential items with them.
CBM is responding through our partners ABTS and Thimar in Lebanon. Dorm rooms at the seminary and spaces for worship are being transformed into collective shelters to provide temporary accommodation for multiple households. Essential items like blankets, pillows, feminine pads, diapers, toiletries, and emergency lights are being distributed, but needs will continue beyond the resources currently available.
CBM, as a member of Canadian Foodgrains Bank, is participating in the Humanitarian Coalition joint appeal. Every donation made between September 24th and November 3rd will be matched by the Canadian Government to a maximum of $3 million.
Our partners are opening their doors, bringing God’s hope to a broken world in tangible ways. Will you offer your support as we demonstrate God’s love and respond to the urgent needs in Lebanon?
