The college arena is a stage of life where-in a person makes life decisions that will potentially determine who they will become and what they will do, not just for the next few years but for a lifetime. If you’ll permit it, let me challenge you: when you think about your plans for the future, do they include the men and/or women you will invest in? In 2 Timothy 2:2, the Apostle Paul commanded Timothy to entrust the truths of God in reliable men who will be able to teach others. In Titus 2:3-4, Paul commanded women to train up younger women. In Psalm 71, as the psalmist contemplated the end of his life uttered a simple prayer, “when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come.” I promise you, you will find deep satisfaction in this work. In 3 John 4, the apostle declared, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” Do you want joy like that? Invest in the next generation.
My wife, Hannah and I both are Texas State University alumni. We married in 2018 and have three kids, Gemma, Isla, & Jackson, ages five and under. As we continue growing in marriage, as parents, and as church members, we seek to steward our family and ministry to love God and people. We both connect with God and people more deeply through the outdoors. We think most others do too, like watching the sunset over the ocean, looking over the edge of the railing at the Grand Canyon, or breathing the mountain air at the summit of a peak gazing on the land around.
There is a deep desire for adventure within us all and I believe it’s because we were created by a wild adventurous God. In this ministry work, we aim to make disciples of Christ; to build relationships that extend and connect to a relationship with Jesus for a lifetime. Relationships are the true essence of life and a relationship with God is the highest manifestation of that. Cultivate good relationships. The term ‘cultivate’ is used often as a gardening term, and gardening takes time. You can’t rush the gardening process. If you want to see a substantive and fruitful tree grow, you will need to intentionally invest energy over time. God commands us to make disciples; to plant seeds and cultivate the harvest, but only He can cause growth. As these young men move on from Texas State, they will impact their friends, families, coworkers, and communities. We want to see Jesus impact them now so that He echoes through them for a lifetime. This is why we are pursuing college men and inviting them into the great adventure of following Jesus.
It's through a deep relationship with God, being known in community, and having Christ like character that will facilitate persevering through the challenges of our culture and life of following God. I would love your support as we seek to rouse the hearts of students towards following God for a lifetime.
Thank you for joining us in this pursuit!
In Christ,
Tyler Everett
