Dr. Mary Jackson Doctoral Degree Scholarship
This scholarship is provided in honor of Dr. Mary Jackson. The Scholarship Committee awards this scholarship to graduate students pursuing a doctoral degree in ministry.
Mary Elizabeth was the third child of Ruby and Odell Jones, pastor of Jacob’s Well Assemblies of God Church in Fort Worth, TX. An outgoing and confident child, Mary was often called “the little preacher”. In 1964 she was ordained as a minister in the Assemblies of God. For more than a decade, she was on the staff of Bethel Assemblies of God as the administrator of Bethel Christian School in Arlington, TX.
Dr. Jackson earned her B.A., M.A., and PhD from the University of Texas at Arlington. Her master’s thesis was "The Emergence of Pentecostalism: The Founding of the Assemblies of God." Her dissertation was "A History of Women in Ministry in the Assemblies of God." Dr. Jackson taught history and government at Nelson University from 1993 to 2009. A gifted teacher and preacher, Dr. Jackson was passionate about educating younger generations and inspiring them to fulfill their destinies.
