Clean water is getting hard to find in the Nuba region.
Water is so readily available for us that we can’t even imagine the consequences of not having it. Yet when you live in a region of fighting and under a government-imposed humanitarian blockade you don’t take it for granted because it can be taken away from you.
Our goal is to service 97 wells that urgently need repair in the Nuba region of Sudan.
In the Nuba mountains of Sudan most of the engineers were driven out of the area because of the hardships being faced by the living conditions. When there are no engineers in an area, things that could be fixed when broken stay broke. Hundreds of hand-pump wells were regularly breaking down due to a lack of spare parts and maintenance.
That is why in 2013, Persecution Project started our Safe Water Program to address the new war being waged against the people living in Nuba.
The Persecution Project’s well-repair teams got to work and repaired 95 wells our first year. Year after year, our teams continued to work. In 2022, 104 repairs were completed. Each well is designed to serve 1,000 people and their livestock, which means as many as 104,000 additional people had access to safe, clean water last year alone.
By the end of 2024, our teams need to repair nearly 100 broken wells, but due to deteriorating security conditions, our time is limited, and your help is needed RIGHT NOW. It costs, on average, $900 to repair a well, and each well serves a community of approximately 1,000 people and their livestock. Will you make a gift? Every dollar will help.
"For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants." -Isaiah 44:3
Thank you for doing what you can,
