The first half of 2026 has proved to be devastating for God’s people living in northwestern Nigeria.

 The year started with 177 churchgoers being kidnapped in Kaduna State and violence and killings have continued every month since then. 

 But the stats don’t tell the whole story. Every number is a person like Sabina David, who was taken by militants who brutally killed her husband and two of her children.

“We were chained like slaves,” she remembers. “They tortured us."

Open Doors’ local partners have identified 5,400 displaced Christian families who are in desperate need of basic supplies, trauma care and long-term support. 

  • $41 could help a Christian who has faced extreme persecution receive hope and healing through trauma care.
  • $55 could help a household with necessities like soap, a bucket, cooking pots and a Bible.
  • $225, you can give a family of six an emergency food package—containing basics like rice, beans, flour, salt, noodles, and cooking oil.

Please note: in the event that more money is raised than can be used for emergency aid in northwestern Nigeria, the remainder will be used to help Open Doors’ ongoing, multi-year Arise Africa campaign, which seeks to provide both immediate and long-term support for Christians in sub-Saharan Africa.
