Gender-Based Violence
Why Gender-Based Violence?
The prevalence of violence against women and girls plagues societies worldwide, violating human rights and threatening the lives, health, and safety of millions of individuals. Globally, an estimated 736 million women - almost 1 in 3 - have been subjected to some form of sexual and/or physical violence. Gender-based violence takes many forms, including physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse. While improvements have been made on recognizing violence against women as a violation against human rights, many cases still go unreported. Investing in strategies that prevent, mitigate and respond to gender-based violence will not only save lives, but also improve the quality of life for women and girls around the globe.
