Climate Impact
Why Climate Impact?
No country or individual is immune to the impacts of climate change, but those living in low-income countries in the Global South are especially vulnerable to the risks and burdens climate change presents. These risks include decreased food production, extreme weather patterns, drought, and loss of livelihoods. Ironically, those living in these regions contribute the least to carbon emissions. With urban populations rising rapidly in Africa and Asia, billions of people are at risk of being affected by the climate crisis.
Did You Know?
- 3.3 billion people live in countries with high vulnerability to climate change.
- By 2030, an estimated 700 million people will be at risk of displacement from drought.
- 2.5 billion small-scale farmers, fishers, herders, and forest-dependent communities are vulnerable to natural hazards.
- 200 to 600 million more people could suffer from hunger by 2080, depending on the climate change scenario.
