Experience the great calm of Jesus in life’s storms

You are probably familiar with the passage of Scripture in Mark 4 where Jesus had been teaching crowds of people all day on the shores of Galilee. When evening came, he told his disciples that he wanted to go to the other side of the sea. They climbed into the boat and were far away from shore when a storm blew in. As you may remember, Jesus was asleep in the stern of the boat and didn’t wake up, even when the waves began to fill their vessel. 

The disciples woke Jesus saying, “‘Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?’ And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:38–39). Yet even after the sea calmed, the disciples were still afraid. 

Isn’t that like all of us when we are faced with life’s storms? There will always be times when our faith seems insufficient for our fears. Faith can be fragile, especially in the middle of a crisis.
