All For One: Board Giving Campaign
As Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake's governing body, it is of utmost importance, as a Board to achieve 100% participation in annual giving. This is an important responsibility because grant-makers want to know that we have universal support from our board members, including many grants that will completely disqualify an organization if they can’t demonstrate this level of board support.
We are lucky to have strong support from our board throughout the year. Some board members prefer to give at the end of the calendar year as part of their annual tax planning. Others give in the springtime before the end of the fiscal year on June 30th. A handful establish a recurring monthly donation and we’d encourage others to do the same if possible. Of our 20 current members, 17 are consistent supporters. This year, let’s achieve 100%!
Here are some general principles about the importance of annual giving when serving as a member of Habitat Chesapeake’s board:
- We expect all board members to make a personal gift. It is essential.
- While we want all board members to maximize support and engagement with their employers where possible, this is not a substitute for personal giving.
- Given the importance of our mission, we hope all board members will make HFHC among THE TOP 3 of their charitable beneficiaries while serving on the board.
- We do not have a target giving level. Instead, we want each member to give as generously as is possible for them. Let it be something comfortable but ambitious.
- Reliable and consistent support from the board allows staff to use their time they reach others for additional support.
Please accept my sincere thanks for you work with Habitat Chesapeake in our efforts to build homes, communities, and hope.
Best regards,
Adam Tremper, Development Committee Chair
