Thank you for investing in Her Journey Home: Ghana 2026!

Hi everyone!

My name is Nadia Fraser, and I am a junior at Prince George High School. This summer, I have the opportunity to go on a transformational trip to Ghana through a nonprofit  organization called Girls For A Change. I have been a part of their programs since I was 9 years old and this opportunity means a lot more to me than I can put into words. Growing up with them has shaped me in so many ways, and now I have the chance to expand that growth to a global level.

Girls For A Change is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering young Black girls through their mission of preparing Black girls for the world, and the world for Black girls. They focus on education, leadership, and community engagement. In 2025, Girls For A Change launched a year-long, culturally grounded program, called Her Journey Home for girls in 8th–12th grade that will conclude with a 10-day immersive trip to Ghana.

This experience is especially meaningful to me because it allows me to connect with my culture, learn from global communities, and grow as a leader alongside other young Black girls who are passionate about making a difference. During this trip, I will participate in cultural exchanges, educational experiences, and community-based activities that emphasize empowerment, identity, and service. This is NOT a mission trip, but a culturally immersive experience designed to allow young girls to reconnect with their roots, learn their history, and gain a deeper understanding of where they truly come from.

We won’t just be visiting—we will be documenting our journey. I will learn how to tell my own story through film by turning the camera on myself and my peers. This experience will help me build confidence, use my voice, and see myself as a storyteller. When we return home to Richmond, we will learn how to edit our footage, add music, and complete a short film about our journey from RVA to Ghana and back home. On Friday, October 2, at the John Marshall Hotel in Richmond, Virginia, I will share my finished film at the Annual Black Girl Showcase, and donors will be invited to attend and see the stories created from this journey.

I am raising funds not only to support my own participation, but to help ensure that every girl in this program has the opportunity to go on this trip, regardless of financial barriers. Your support helps make this experience accessible to all of us. The cost of this experience is $6,500 per participant, which includes airfare, housing, meals, transportation, programming, safety, and filmmaking equipment. I am asking for support because I cannot do this alone.

Any amount truly helps. Your support brings me one step closer to this life-changing experience and helps me bring what I learn back to my school and community.

I am so excited to take you all along with me on this journey. This opportunity means so much to me, and knowing that I have the support, encouragement, and belief of friends and family, and my community makes it 10 times more special. I plan to keep everyone updated during the trip, sharing milestones, behind the scenes, and even challenges, capturing all the meaningful experiences that come from it.

With gratitude,

Nadia
